Two male students are in a physical altercation in your science class room where you are doing experiments. In the fray, one of the students cuts his wrist on a glass beaker. Blood has gone from his injury onto him, the floor, the work area, and the other student.
What would you do? Explain the steps you would take. Why?
I would tell all of the other students to stay clear of the blood. I would then locate and follow the exposure control plan. I would then put on the appropriate PPE and treat the student's cuts. After the appropriate treatment I would then properly dispose of any contaminated materials that I used to clean up the cuts (including my gloves). Finally I would call our custodian to come clean the contaminated surfaces. I would then formally report this to my Principal.
